Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Writing a blog post can be a daunting process, to say the least. From choosing a topic to coming up with the perfect intro sentence, it can be a lot to handle. You may be wondering where to start or what the next step is. Thanks to this blog post, you’ll know how to write a blog post in 8 easy steps.

The days of poorly written “10 ways to eat a cake” blog posts have long passed. Writing a blog post is not just about getting people to your website. It’s also about building a rapport with your audience

Today, it’s all about quality content that provides real value. A high-quality blog post will increase the amount of time people spend on your website and lower the bounce rate. If you’ve been struggling to write a good blog post, check out our handy guide below and you can improve your writing skills in no time.

What is a Blog Post

A blog post is a short, non-fiction piece of writing that is published on a blog. Blog posts are generally written in the present tense and are meant to be shared with the world. They can cover almost any topic and can be used to share information, experiences, or opinions on almost any topic. Blog posts are meant to be fun and interactive; they are typically accompanied by images and videos that help explain or enhance the message that you are trying to get across.

You don’t have to worry too much about what your blog post will look like as you’re creating it. In fact, if you’re using WordPress (which most businesses do), you just write all the content and then when you hit publish, it’ll automatically format itself with images and links and stuff, so there’s no need to worry about all those things while you’re writing. However, you can always have a custom-designed blog (something we can help with) which then separates your blog from others and gives you a competitive advantage.

Social Media vs Blogging

A lot of people don’t really understand the difference between social media and blogging. It’s like the difference between, say, a pair of sneakers and a car. Social media is for transportation—you can get from point A to point B and back again. Blogging is more like walking. Social media is often about making connections, whereas blogging is more about creating your own content. Social media has less pressure to be perfect because you don’t have to make your own content every single time—you just need to share what other people have already made. Blogging can be a little more intense because you’re responsible for everything you create.

Don’t let this overwhelm you, though! Social media can be an awesome way to promote your blog —just be sure to keep in mind how they’re different so you can do both well!

How to Write a Blog Post: 8 Easy Steps

1- Pick a topic to write about

Your blog exists to serve a purpose for your audience. The topics you cover should directly relate to that purpose, whether it’s building trust with your readers or sharing your expertise to educate them. Use what you know about your readers and the problems they’re trying to solve to come up with ideas for new blog posts.

If you are blogging for business purposes, this will be much easier because you probably already have a niche that you are focusing on. But if your blog is more personal than business-oriented, think about the topics that interest you the most. This can include anything from food and travel to DIY projects or fashion.

2- Do keyword research

Keyword research is an important part of writing a blog post that people are actually going to read. Keywords are the words and phrases that people type into search engines when looking for answers. You can use a keyword tool like Google’s Keyword Planner or SEMrush to help you find popular keywords in your industry and determine how many people are searching for them each month.

3- Make an outline

Once you know what topic you want to write about and what keywords you want to target, it’s time to make an outline of everything you want to include in the post. This will help you organize your thoughts and plan out everything from the introduction to the conclusion so that nothing is left out.

4- Write your blog post

Click on New post at the top of your WordPress dashboard, and start typing! You can use formatting tools to make your post look great. When you’re ready, click Publish to make your post live on the web.

5- Add photos, videos, and other media

Add images and videos to your posts to make them pop! If you’re using WordPress, you can find great free images on the sites JumpStory, Pexels or Pixabay. If you’re using a different CMS, try searching for “free stock photos” or something similar on Google.

Click on the Add Media button above the post editor toolbar and upload an image from your computer. You can also insert images from a URL if they are already online somewhere.

6- Optimize your blog post for search engines

Google and other major search engines use algorithms to find the most relevant content for each search. A high-quality blog post will have the following characteristics:

  • Fully optimized title and meta description
  • Well-written, useful content that’s relevant to your audience
  • Optimized images and videos
  • Internal links to other pages on your site
  • External links to authoritative sources in your industry

7- Format Your Post for Easy Readability

Before you hit Publish, take a few minutes to format your post for easy readability. By doing so, you’ll make it easier for readers to scan your post and pick out the information they need. You’ll also be adding more white space to your post, making it look cleaner and more organized.   Here are a few formatting suggestions:

  • Break up long paragraphs into two or three shorter ones. If you have one or two sentences that stand alone, put them in their own paragraph.
  • Bold important words or phrases in key points to draw readers’ attention to them.
  • Use subheadings (like the ones in this post!) when you want to break up content into bite-sized chunks. Subheadings also help skimmers find specific information.
  • Bullet lists are another good way to break up content and make it easier to read. Use them when you want to list ideas or steps in a process like we’re doing here with these eight steps on how to write a blog post!

8- Proofread your blog post

Before you hit publish, make sure you proofread your blog post. Read it out loud to catch any mistakes you missed earlier. The last thing you want is to have spelling errors or incomplete sentences in your post. These things might not bother you, but they do make a difference to readers and will affect their perception of your writing skills.

What Makes a Good Blog Post

Good blog posts are the ones that resonate with your target audience, right?

But what makes a blog post good? And how do you know if your posts are resonating?

These are questions we hear all the time from our customers. And it’s not easy to figure out on your own.

There are various ways to make a blog post, but there’s one thing that every good blog post has in common.

A blog post can be short or long, funny or serious, breaking news or timeless evergreen content — but it should always be useful.

While this is the most important element of a good blog post, how you go about writing something that’s actually useful depends on the topic and what you’re trying to achieve with your content.

For example, if you’re writing a product-related blog post for an e-commerce store, you’re probably going to want to focus on features and benefits rather than structure. This is because the goal of your content is to sell products. On the other hand, if you run a lifestyle blog and your goal is to provide readers with tips for living a better life, then you’ll want to be more focused on providing information in an accessible way.

When it comes down to it though, there are three main elements of a good blog post: clarity, structure and personality.

Given all the information above, you should now be more informed than ever about how to write a blog post and make it as effective as possible. Keep your goals in mind and try out these tips to see if they can help you write high-quality blog posts that readers will enjoy.
